The things kids say…

June 15, 2007

So, this post is about a week overdue. Last Friday at school the 5th grade class watched the “S Video” as Hank calls it. I didn’t know what the “S Video” was, finally after some guessing, I discovered it’s the video about bodies changing, puberty, etc… which Hank thinks of as the “Sex video” but refuses to say the word “sex.” It could be worse, right?

As a product of the public school system I remember the “s video” all too much, but I didn’t think that they would show it at a private, catholic school – I was wrong. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not upset at all. Hank and I have covered the whole “S” topic already. When you are pregnant and have a 5th grader, it’s kinda hard to skip over that one.

So, Monday morning as we are driving to school Hank tells me, “I learned something from the s video that I never knew before.” Of course, I thought I had covered all those bases, so I wondered what I might have missed… Hank says, “I thought pimples came from oil and dirt on your skin, but it comes from excess semen.” That left me speechless…then he continued, “but that didn’t make sense, how do girls get pimples? Where is their semen?” Still pondering his revalation I realized he has misunderstood the word SEBUM (excess oil production) for SEMEN – After explaining the different words, and the fact that girls don’t have semen, I silently cracked up to myself…
