Tuesday update
August 21, 2007
Last night as I pulled into the gas station I was pleasantly suprised to find the price of gas was $2.81 per gallon. That is the LOWEST I can remember it being in a long time. Knowing we are well into hurricane season didn’t bring any relief, and the realization that a large percentage of American oil supply is in the Gulf of Mexico (hurricane zone) made me cringe. I remember all too well how gas prices shot up last year as hurricanes hit oil rigs. For now, I’ll keep hoping that they stay away, FAR AWAY.
Last night our softball team won. I think that the final score was 24-2. They started a rule that once we had seven runs in an inning we were out and the other team was up to bat… oh well, it was a nice night and we all had fun. Tonight we have another game, and next week is our last two games of the season.
Hank (and team) got their helmets at practice last night. This usually brings on headaches for the kids that are not used to the added weight. Hank did great, no headache! His football team is doing a fundraiser car wash so bring your dirty cars to the Astoria Dairy Queen Saturday for a good scrubbing!
Hood to Coast is also this weekend. My goal is to be part a team next year provided Uncle Sam (aka: Coast Guard) doesn’t decide to send us packing to some distant location. We should have some definitive plans by January. Right now it looks like we have the green light to stay put in Astoria!!! Hooray!
Kid updates
August 15, 2007
Well, we are two days into football season and all is going well. Hank has been running his buns off. He really has been doing a great job. He is really having a good time and loves being one of the “big kids” on the team. I can’t wait to get pictures of him in uniform up here!
Brie is getting so tall (long) that she has outgrown her 0-3 month old clothes with feet in them. Wearing all 3 month clothes is just around the corner. Some are still a little big, and pants are too big around the waist. Tomorrow she goes in for a weight check so I will let you all know what she is up to and her percentiles. Today when changing her diaper I noticed that her umbilical hernia really looks good. I guess I should re-phrase that a little, by having a “good looking hernia” I mean that it looks to be healing on its own and may not need surgery. Granted, I am no doctor, but from what I see it appears to be getting better. Initially we were told that in about 90% of infants this type of hernia will heal without repair.
Stay tuned for more updates tomorrow!
Three Months Old
August 8, 2007
Today our little girl is three month old and I am happy to report that last night she had her best night of sleep to date. She slept from 10:30pm – 5:30am! That is 7 hours! Woo hoo!
Brie is usually very alert during the day. She smiles a lot and loves to talk to her friends. Usually first thing in the morning we get a full report of what she has on her mind. She is very good at making vowel sounds, particularly “O” and “E.” Occasionally we get some consonant sounds too.
She is in love with her hands and enjoys sucking on the backs of her hands and fingers. Currently weighing in at 10 1/2 pounds, she has not graduated to 3 month old clothes yet, which is more than ok with me! Her closet is stocked with “oodles” of clothes!
She has proven to be a very adaptable baby. She has been out to eat, to softball games, and to the theater to see the newest Harry Potter movie. She is a very good baby, only usually crying when she is hungry or has tummy pains.
Everyone comments on her little “weather pattern.” For those of you that have not seen her in person, you may not know that Brie has her own little hurricane. What? Well, it turns out that the poor child has been cursed with a terrible cowlick at her hair line right in the middle of her forehead. Yup, the little girl will never be able to have bangs, even her little baby hair sticks up there. You can kinda see it in the picture above and below:
On another note, last night was another softball game. We played in the rain and were all pretty soaked by the time the game was over. I had two hits, but got out both times. I played left center, second base, and catcher. Ron had a great game (as usual) and had three nice hits. He played left field, short stop, and first base. We lost to the other team (our church) by 1 point. We have another game tonight.
Summer Softball
August 1, 2007
Tonight was game two for our co-ed softball team. We won 11-9 against the other team. I didn’t have any really noteable plays, nor did Ron. It was a rather uneventful, and in all honesty considering all of the 5th inning errors that we had, I am amazed that we won. Peyton took great care of Brie while Ron and I played!
